FC Edmonton draws with visiting New York Cosmos, 1-1

FC Edmonton captain Albert Watson was judged to have handled the ball just outside the penalty area that sent New York Cosmos’ Marcos Senna to do the penalty kick with just few minutes remaining.

Senna’s free kick passed through a defensive wall for the equalizer, 1-1, that denied the hosts a victory in the North American Soccer League, Sunday afternoon, at the Clarke Stadium in Edmonton City, Alberta.

FC Edmonton broke the silence and sent the fans to wild cheers when midfielder Chris Nurse scored with a header in front of the goalmouth at the 60th minute mark, 1-0, thanks to an assist by Neil Hlavaty.

FC Edmonton shared fifth place in the standings with six points with the Atlanta Silvebacks while the Cosmos improved to solo third place with eight points, two points behind league-leader Carolina RailHawks.

Edmonton’s next game is on September 7 against host Minnesota United FC.(pinoy edmonton news as seen on sportsnet)
