Accomplished and contented Edmontonian, Roberto Maglalang has decided to run for Councillor.
For Maglalang, a human resource manager for the last three decades, there are important concerns by Edmontonians which need to be addressed by formulating needed public policies that can be laid down through city legislative work and so he decided to run for the second time.
He cited the need to accelerate the city’s economic development with a Council that would work hard to build more infrastructure projects including the LRT project, establishment of cooperatives to augment a family’s income and the lowering of property taxes by channeling subsidies from earnings of EPCOR Utilities.
Maglalang, an entrepreneur himself, pointed out the need to encourage and support businesses that would add more revenues for the city as well as providing a safer environment by setting up CCTV cameras on streets at “quite disturbing areas”.
He believes that the City Council can be like a “corporation with the city workers as talents and change agents, the council as Board of Directors and the public as customers and stakeholders”.
“My ultimate goal is to help accelerate the development of the city,” said the 59-year-old trained economist, originally from the Philippines who with wife Cherry have worked hard enough to raise three of their four children become a lawyer, an engineer and doctor. Their fourth child is still a student.
He admitted becoming a Councilor can be a tough job but his desire of becoming one has been inspired of his wanting to see fellow Edmontonians happy as he promised that he will have an “Open Door” policy for community members whom he would like to conduct regular dialogues with regards to any City Hall agenda.
Ward 11’s City Council spot became vacant after incumbent Councillor Kerry Diotte decided to run for mayor against fellow Councillors Don Iveson and Karen Leibovici. Other candidates for mayor, according to Edmonton Elections, are Kristine Acielo, Joshua Semotiuk and Gordon Ward.
Aside from Maglalang, Edmonton Elections list showed there are seven other candidates for Councillor namely, Rob Aromin, Sonia Bitar, Mujahid Chak, Dennis John Gane, Mike Nickel, Harvey Panesar and Brent Schaffrick.
Election Day is on October 21, a Monday.(pinoy edmonton news)
