Edmonton Finalist in Global Sustainability Challenge
The City of Edmonton is one of 34 finalists participating in the 2014 Earth Hour City Challenge. The WWF chose Edmonton as a finalist from among the 163 entrants because of its impressive actions on climate change.
An expert jury will now review the actions and commitments reported by these cities and identify one sustainability leader per country for the National Earth Hour Capital Awards to be presented in Vancouver on March 27, 2014. Edmonton is among three Canadian cities in the running.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by the WWF for our goal of creating a carbon neutral future,” said Mark Brostrom, Director, Office of Environment, City of Edmonton. “We were selected as a finalist based on our focus on reducing building and transport emissions, coupled with a renewable energy taskforce and an energy transition plan which is in development.”
Citizens can also help Edmonton become a winner, by participating in the We Love Cities campaign which goes live January 17, 2014. People can vote for the City of Edmonton in a few ways:
