
EDMONTON — Players from the top three teams received their medals and lifted the trophies as the Crosstown Auto Centre-Philippine Sports Association Fall/Winter Basketball League Season 18 wrapped up with an awards night last Saturday, February 1.
Playoff most valuable player Paolo Librea, who averaged 17 points, and his Team Crooks were the toast of the night after being awarded the champions’ trophy and medals by Crosstown Auto Centre representatives Chester Tiongson and Tony Surtida, PSA president Joey Doctolero, first vice-president Gary Perpetua and second vice-president Allan Angeles.
Completing the Crooks squad were Selwyn Wagwag, RJ Librea, Sarce Garcia, Wes Palo, James Maglalang, Gemo Itliong, Majay Marquez, Jason Caag, Jason Wawaniwan, Jerry Soco and best forward Josh Santua whose contributions led to their victory against regular round most valuable player JR Sumaguit and Team R&D Bobcat.
Sumaguit, a co-best forward awardee, and the other Bobcats Rogelio Simon, Francis Tabaldo, Rolando Eje, Carlo Cuenco, Floyd Eyao, Jeff Corpuz, Luther Bumatay, Emer Caoile, Fontie Santos and Darryl Gonzales also received their second place medals and trophy.
Third place honors went to La Massage led by Brian Leyte, who received the best guard award with co-winner Daryl Supnit of Team Flight. Leyte’s teammates were Mark Inguillo, Dodo de Guzman, DJ Padilla, Chris Bacog, Dioren Sebastian, IC Galang, Armando Abana, Erdz Orquez and JP Padilla.
The awards night at the Rolymie Bakery and Restaurant, a long-time PSA supporter, was attended by the PSA volunteers, their families and friends.
The league has attracted 16 teams this year and organizers are expecting the number of squads to increase in the next season.
Doctolero, PSA’s president, said they have started also with a volleyball tournament and told Pinoy Edmonton News that it has also received support from Crosstown Auto Centre.
Surtida, who spoke on behalf of dealer-principal Joe Medina, announced their commitment to continually support sports events organized by Filipino-Albertans and hope that their contributions will make them healthy and productive Albertans.(pinoy edmonton news)
