Fire Rescue Services Launches Edmonton’s First Fire Cadet Program

This fall, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) will proudly welcome its inaugural Fire Cadet class to the EFRS Training School.

The Edmonton Fire Cadet Program is an opportunity for high school students to develop important life skills, such as pride, leadership, commitment, discipline and teamwork, while also giving them a better understand of firefighting as a career through classroom and hands-on learning.

Some students will leave the Cadet Program with the foundation and skill set necessary to start an exciting and rewarding career with Fire Rescue Services. Other students will take the skills they have developed and apply them to other, meaningful community and professional work. Students will also receive high school credits upon completion of the program.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services is accepting applications for its first Cadet class until May 30, 2014. Successful applicants will begin the program in September 2014. Twenty to 30 Cadets will be enrolled in each class. Once the program is at full capacity, three classes will run at once.

If you know a high school student (15 to 18 years of age) who would benefit from this challenging and rewarding opportunity, please visit edmonton.ca/firecadets or call 780-984-4223 to speak with a Cadet Training Officer.
