Yes, you can compost!

Learn the basics of composting and grasscycling at the John Janzen Backyard Compost Education Centre. Two-hour workshops cover the basics of the composting process, what to expect from your ingredients, and tips and tricks to make it work – fast!

Our compost educator will help you choose the method that’s right for you. Workshops are held at the John Janzen Nature Centre. Participants who are residents of Edmonton may purchase an Earth Machine compost bin (pictured above) or compost aerator at a reduced cost.

Backyard composting workshops

Teachers

Invite our educator into the classroom.  Choose a two-hour hands-on presentation to Grade 4, or a one hour introduction to the Carbon Cycle for Grade 5.  Other grade levels may request customised presentations.  Free to Edmonton schools; $5 per child for out-of town.  Call 780-496-5404.

Fundraise

Host a workshop for your garden club or community league. Free to not-for-profit groups within Edmonton; travel charges apply outside city limits ($5 per person, min 20 persons).
