Sign installation causes late night road closures
From June 4 to June 7, late night road closures will take place north of Fort McMurray as crews install directional overhead signage.
Highway 63 as well as the Thickwood Boulevard and Confederation Way Interchanges will be affected.
Wednesday, June 4 between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
- Southbound lanes of Highway 63 will be closed on Confederation Way and Thickwood Boulevard Interchanges. Motorists can detour using the highload bypass at each interchange.
Thursday, June 5 between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
- Thickwood Boulevard will down to one lane, alternating traffic in both eastbound and westbound directions.
Friday, June 6 between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
- Eastbound lanes on Confederation Way will be closed at the Eagle Ridge overpass. Motorists can access Highway 63 via Thickwood Boulevard.
Saturday, June 7 between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
- Both the eastbound and westbound lanes on Confederation Way will be closed between Eagle Ridge overpass and the Confederation overpass. Motorists will be detoured to and from Highway 63 via Thickwood Boulevard.

- Motorists are reminded to obey all flag persons, signs and signals.
- Fines for speeding double in construction zones.
- Signs advising travellers of construction, detours and speed limits will be posted.
- The Government of Alberta is committed to improving Highway 63 within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo for the safety of motorists and to improve traffic flow and commute times.
- Since 2005, the province has invested more than $1 billion to support Highway 63 and 881 projects, providing critical highway infrastructure for the Athabasca oil sands region and connecting to Alberta’s transportation network.
- There are many Highway 63 projects currently under construction to support market access and economic opportunities throughout Alberta.
