- Platinum Investments Ltd. has opened the Renaissance Airport Edmonton Hotel, a 213-room upscale hotel attached to the terminal at Edmonton International Airport
- A recent report from the Conference Board of Canada found that expansion of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline could create 15,000 person-years of employment in Alberta during the construction phase, but only 40 full-time positions in Alberta once construction is complete

- Construction is slated to begin in June 2014 on the Empress Hills Aquatic Centre, adding to a range of recreation projects currently underway in Strathcona County
- The Edmonton Catholic School Board has voted to close three schools due to the high cost of repairs to the buildings
- NorQuest College has started construction on the $190M Centre for Learning in downtown Edmonton, scheduled to open for classes in the fall of 2017
