- Suncor is partnering with five other energy companies to build and operate a $165M water research centre north of Fort McMurray
- Aecon Group has been awarded a mining contract, estimated at $123M, for site development at the Fort Hills oil sands project north of Fort McMurray
- Calgary United Cab, a new taxi service launched in Calgary, is structured as a co-operative with profit sharing for the 70 drivers involved with the company
- The Government of Canada is providing $1.1M to the University of Alberta for a new microscope to be used in the production of semi-conductors for computers and industrial applications
- The University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College have jointly received a $5M private donation to establish the Cor Van Raay Southern Alberta Agribusiness Program
- Construction has started on a skateboard park, the first phase of an adventure park, in the hamlet of Clairmont
- Strathcona County is planning to expand its services to seniors through the Older Adults Program
- Strathcona County has developed an online child care bank that will provide parents with information and a list of child care providers
- The Trans America Group is planning two mixed office and commercial buildings in Sherwood Park, with completion scheduled for 2016
- Parkland County is recruiting for the new fire station in Acheson. The county anticipates a transfer of up to 15 employees from the Parkland Village station to the new site in Acheson.
- The Knowledge Tree Early Learning and Child Care Centre in Valleyview has recently opened, creating four full-time positions and three part-time positions
- The Town of Whitecourt has awarded a contract to First Canada to operate a public transit system in the community, with the service expected to launch in September 2014
- The Town of Whitecourt is losing two RCMP members after a policing agreement with the Eagle River Casino was suspended
- KCWest Management and Avion Development have received approval from the Town of Whitecourt for the construction of 126 apartments and 19 fourplexes
- Airdrie Transit is expanding its weekend service to include connections to the McKnight-Westwinds LRT station in Calgary, starting July 5, 2014
- The Edmonton Economic Development Authority has signed an agreement with Gascana AB Energy and Gascana-Sino Industrial Park Administrative Committee to develop a 405-hectare industrial park in Sturgeon County
- TransCanada Pipeline is planning to begin construction in the fall of 2014 on the $3B Grand Rapids Project, a pipeline and storage tank system that will service the West Athabasca oil sands region
- The Town of Morinville has approved the rezoning of land that will permit the construction of 92 housing units
- The City of Red Deer has signed a five-year contract with Alberta Health Services that will retain ambulance dispatch in the city, delaying a previous move by the Government of Alberta to centralize dispatch services
- The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology is adding nearly 1,200 student spaces in the fall of 2014, through a grant from the Government of Alberta
