Contaminated water advisory issued for Hasse Lake

EDMONTON – Due to elevated levels of fecal coliforms currently present in the waters of Hasse Lake, located in Parkland County west of Edmonton, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is advising the public not to swim or wade in the lake water. The public is also advised not to drink this contaminated lake water, as water-borne organisms, including fecal coliforms, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

Elevated levels of fecal coliforms were detected during routine water testing at Hasse Lake. At current levels, skin, ear and eye infections can result from any contact with lake water.

AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the water in Hasse Lake.

This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
