New home for Edmonton’s Reuse Centre

Reuse Centre

The City of Edmonton Reuse Centre celebrated the opening of its new home on Argyll Road and 83 Street.

The Reuse Centre accepts various reusable items free of charge and makes them available to organizations and individuals for reuse. The Centre is unique in that it accepts more than 250 types of items that are not accepted anywhere else, such as sewing, arts, crafts and school supplies.

“The new Reuse Centre location will further enable us to promote the benefits of reuse, provide affordable items to organizations and individuals, and divert waste from landfill,” said Kristin Arnot, Reuse Coordinator for Waste Management Services.

The more spacious facility allows staff to accept a larger variety of items for donation and provides a more enjoyable shopping experience for customers. There is plenty of free parking for convenient drop-off and pick-up and the Centre is accessible by public transportation.

“This bigger location allows us to provide on-site reuse workshops and showcase the work of local artists who create upcycled and reused art,” says Arnot. “By providing more opportunities for reuse we can show how reuse is an easy and environmentally friendly way to conserve resources and reduce waste in our City.”

Since the Reuse Centre first opened at its downtown location in 2007, it has received 878 tonnes of material. More than 400 dedicated volunteers help sort through donations, stack shelves, and offer reuse workshops.

The Reuse Centre is located at 6835–83 Street, on the corner of Argyll Road and 83 Street.
