- The Government of Alberta has committed an additional $5.5M to Legal Aid Alberta to provide services for low-income residents
- The Calgary Regional Partnership is launching a pilot transit project by the spring of 2016 that will see buses link surrounding communities to the Calgary LRT system
- Home Depot Canada has started construction on its first Rapid Deployment Centre in Western Canada, alongside their Stocking Distribution Centre, which is currently under construction. The two facilities are expected to create 350 jobs.
- The Cubs and Kittens Educational Centre, a local daycare provider in Airdrie, closed its doors on October 31, 2014, due to a shortage of children using the service
- The City of Airdrie will be providing transportation to Calgary through Airdrie Transit for specialist medical appointments on an as-needed basis starting in January 2015
- The Airdrie Business Resource Partnership is accepting applications for a second session of their SMARTstart program, which matches entrepreneurs with business mentors, scheduled to start in February 2015
- KLM, a Dutch airline, is expanding its flight service between Calgary and Amsterdam and also adding a new service between Edmonton and Amsterdam
- The Chiniki First Nation has announced plans for the $6M Chiniki Travel Centre, which will include a restaurant, grocery store and gas bar, providing employment for up to 30 band members
- The City of Calgary has approved a seven-level condominium building, with retail outlets on the street floor, in the Inglewood neighbourhood
- TransCanada is planning a $2.7B expansion of its Nova Gas Transmission system over the 2016 to 2017 period, as a result of new natural gas transmission contracts
- Lafarge Western Canada has ceased construction activities at its Exshaw plant pending a health and safety review of materials at the site
- Construction of the Bow Rivers Seniors Lodge in Canmore has been split into two phases, with the second phase now providing a higher level of care that is not currently available in the area
- The Town of Banff is taking over any future housing developments from the Banff Housing Corporation, a not-for-profit developer, as well as government relations and long-term housing planning
- Red Arrow Motorcoach is starting a regional coach service from Cold Lake to Edmonton and Fort McMurray, starting on November 13, 2014, with plans for further expansion depending on demand for the service
- A $5M donation has been made to the University of Calgary to establish the Anderson-Chisholm Chair in Animal Care and Welfare and to promote research and innovation in Alberta’s cattle industry
- The Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute will be creating the Orwenko Centre, a research centre dedicated to the study of neurodevelopmental disorders, following a $10M donation
- Haro Developments is planning to increase the size of a condominium project in Fort Saskatchewan after the City Council approved two additional floors for the building
- The Peace Wapiti School Division in Grande Prairie is turning to job search websites and school newsletters in an attempt to find bus drivers
- The County of Grande Prairie, the Government of Alberta and the Horse Lake First Nation are partnering to offer firefighting safety and fire suppression training to emergency personnel
- The Town of Penhold has granted conditional approval to a plan by Laebon Homes for the 47-house Palisades subdivision
- The Nanton Health Clinic is expecting two new physicians, one in December 2014 and another in January 2015, to replace two doctors who left earlier in 2014
- Mastermind Toys has recently opened new stores in Calgary and Sherwood Park, with two additional locations planned for Edmonton, in the first half of 2015
- The Town of Bowden has shelved their plans for a new community hall after the estimated construction cost of $3.2M was deemed excessive for the tax base
