City of Edmonton and Leduc County Establish Joint Annexation Negotiation Protocols

City Hall

Council representatives from both the City of Edmonton and Leduc County met November 21, 2014 to finalize the annexation negotiation protocols.

The annexation negotiation protocols set the framework for negotiation sessions and will be signed by all members of the City of Edmonton’s Annexation Negotiating Committee and Leduc County’s Intermunicipal Liaison Committee.

A representative from the Municipal Government Board (MGB) was present at the meeting to provide an overview of the MGB’s annexation process and annexation principles.

Both committees agreed to a series of annexation negotiation sessions, to be facilitated by a pair of jointly-hired facilitators. The next scheduled session will take place on December 16, 2014. Annexation is a provincially regulated process and negotiation is part of the mandated process.

The City of Edmonton’s Annexation Negotiation Committee consists of Mayor Don Iveson and councillors Bryan Anderson, Ed Gibbons and Michael Walters.

Leduc County’s Intermunicipal Liaison Committee consists of Mayor John Whaley and councillors Clay Stumph, John Schonewille and Tanni Doblanko.
