Report problem cabs in a snap

Taxi IDCity encourages residents to use their camera phone to photograph taxi decals

It’s now easier for residents to report problematic behaviour in City of Edmonton licensed taxis using their camera phone. All licensed taxis have been given City decals that include the cab company and taxi unit number to make reporting incidents easier.

“We have received feedback about unacceptable conduct in City licensed taxis,” said Garry Dziwenka director of vehicle for hire and business licensing. “Our main priority is the safety of our citizens, so we introduced an easier way to report these incidents’ to take action against these drivers. The City wants to ensure Edmontonians are choosing City licensed taxis and that they feel safe in them, especially when there’s an expected surge in unlicensed taxis during the holiday season.”

The City relies on reports from passengers to learn about problematic taxi drivers. Many reports the City receives have insufficient information about the cab or company to pursue the incident. The information on the new decals will provide Edmontonians and the City with enough detail to follow through with incident reports.

If you’re in a City licensed taxi and you feel unsafe, take a photo of the decal with your phone and email your photo to vehicleforhire@edmonton.ca with the time and date of the incident. You can also call 780-496-5244 or report it online.
