Freezing rain warning in effect for:
- City of Edmonton – St. Albert – Sherwood Park
Freezing rain is expected or occurring.
A band of freezing rain is causing very slippery conditions north and west of Edmonton. At this time it appears that the northern half of the city of Edmonton will receive a prolonged period of freezing rain, perhaps 1 to 2 hours. In central and southern parts of the city, the freezing rain should be fairly short-lived.
Another area of freezing rain is near Leduc and moving toward the southeast.
These areas of freezing rain are expected to move southeast over the next couple of hours before dissipating.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
Freezing Rain Warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Please continue to monitor your local media or Weatheradio for further updates. If you would like to report severe weather, you can call 1-800-239-0484 or send an email to storm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #ABStorm.
