- Imperial Oil has announced a new research facility in southeast Calgary adjacent to the company’s headquarters. The site is scheduled to be operational by 2017.
- Park & Jet Airport Parking, an independent parking operator serving Calgary airport travellers, is expanding and moving to property controlled by Calgary International Airport
- The Burger¿s Priest, a Toronto-based hamburger restaurant chain, is opening its first location outside Ontario, in Edmonton by March 2015
- Fast Forward Weekly, a Calgary newspaper, is ceasing publication of its print edition effective March 5, 2015, but the fate of the associated website is uncertain. The publication has eight full-time staff members.
- Aurora Cannabis has been granted Alberta’s first medical marijuana license by Health Canada. The facility near Cremona is expected to hire 100 staff and produce its first crop by the summer of 2015.
- The Banff Centre Radio is ceasing operations on February 28, 2015 after releasing the licenses for its two radio stations. Four employees will lose their positions as the station transitions to podcasts aimed at the tourist sector.
- Fuji Starlight Express is going to build a 63-room hotel on the site of the current Homestead Inn in Banff, following recent approval of the plans from the town administration
- The Bonnyville Regional Health Centre is expecting four new physicians by the summer of 2015, bringing the total recruitment to six physicians since 2014
- Shell Canada has recently withdrawn its regulatory application for the Pierre River Mine, north of Fort McMurray. The company stated that any employment impacts would be limited and it is now focusing on its existing oil sands projects.
- Larcina Energy has suspended operations and started shut-in activities at its Germain Commercial Demonstration Project near Wabasca. The company has also suspended work at its Saleski Phase 1 project.
- The Government of Canada, through the National Trails Coalition, is providing $211,000 towards rebuilding of the Beaver River Trestle Bridge near Cold Lake. The structure was badly damaged by fire in 2012.
- The Town of Redcliff has approved pay increases for its fire department to achieve compensation parity with similar communities. The town currently has 21 firefighters.
- Encana Corp., a Calgary-based oil and gas company, is cutting $700M from its 2015 capital budget due to a global decline in crude oil prices
- Calfrac Well Services, an oilfield services and hydraulic fracturing company, is cutting its budgets and salaries in response to lower crude oil prices. The company expects lower activity levels in both its natural gas and oil markets in 2015.
- The Wainwright Credit Union and the Wetaskiwin Credit Union have merged to create the new Encompass Credit Union. All of the current staff in Wainwright and Wetaskiwin will remain as part of the new credit union.
- Coalspur Mines, the developer of the Vista coal project near Hinton, has agreed to be purchased by an affiliate of Cline Group, a major US-based coal producer. The deal, subject to shareholder approval, is expected to close by May 2015.
