Curb the Danger call leads to recovery of stolen property
One citizen’s call to Curb the Danger led EPS to two arrests and the recovery of two stolen vehicles.
On Wednesday, Mar. 31, 2015 EPS Strategic Traffic Apprehension Team (STAT) was patrolling the north end of the city when a call to 911 about a driver allegedly consuming alcohol behind the wheel was reported. The detailed information from the caller led STAT members to intersect the vehicle in the area of Yellowhead Trail and Victoria Trail.
When the vehicle stop was conducted, the vehicle (2013 Mitsubishi RVR) and licence plate were listed as stolen. Police recovered a small amount of cocaine, bolt cutters and jewelry from the vehicle and arrested the driver.
Jeffrey Klein, 31, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and disqualified driving.
Klein’s next court date is scheduled for April 22, 2015.
Subsequent to this investigation, police arrested Crystal Sowan, 31, on April 1, 2015 when she was attempting to enter a stolen Toyota Rav4. She was also allegedly in the possession of stolen property.
The investigation revealed Sowan entered into a fitness establishment in Sherwood Park on Mar. 24, 2015 with bolt cutters and allegedly cut the lock from a complainant’s locker, stole car keys and her vehicle, a 2013 Mitsubishi RVR.
The investigation also led police to another incident where Sowan allegedly entered another fitness establishment in west Edmonton. Sowan allegedly cut a lock off of a locker at the facility, stole a wallet and keys to a 2015 Toyota RAV 4. A debit card from the stolen wallet was also allegedly used to purchase gas, cigarettes and lottery tickets.
“The suspect’s acts were quite brazen,” says Const. Jeff Park with STAT. “The suspect allegedly also used the garage door opener to enter into the residence of the complainant where $7,000 worth of jewellery and $2,000 worth of electronics were also stolen. The jewelry was recovered from both of the stolen vehicles.”
Crystal Sowan, 31, is charged with theft under $5,000, theft of motor vehicle (x2), fraud, housebreaking and commit theft, use of stolen credit card, possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x3), possession of cocaine, possession of break in tools-bolt.
Sowan’s next court appearance is April 14, 2015.
