Donah and Alwyn Esguerra thanked the players who suited up for Team Eswar which placed third in the recent PSA-Crosstown Auto Baskeball League.
The team sponsors, whose squad is composed of 80 percent Filipino temporary foreign workers, have built the team as one way of helping them keep in touch with their kababayans in Edmonton.
The Esguerras are even more happy after their coach, Joseph “Jojo” Sumalinog was named Best Coach. Sumalinog, son of legendary Davao coach Arthur, played for the Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders. The Crusaders won regional and national titles in the Philippines.
Oliver Branzuela, originally from Cebu, bagged the Best Center award.
“Their hard work and dedication made us proud,” said the sponsors.(p.e.n.)
