News Release
Final stage of precast concrete delivery to begin this month on new hospital parkade
Temporary disruptions for vehicle and pedestrian traffic accessing the site
RED DEER – The delivery and placement of precast concrete t-beams for the new parkade at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre (RDRHC) is progressing on schedule, with the final phase of this work to commence next week.
The delivery of the final t-beams will result in a number of slow-moving trucks in the area, which may cause brief delays for people trying to access the hospital and surrounding area. To ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians in the area, traffic flow on streets immediately surrounding the hospital, as well as pedestrian access to the site, will be temporarily re-routed.
From approximately June 22 to July 22, traffic disruptions around the hospital will include:
There will be no vehicle access through the section of 50A Ave. adjacent to the parkade construction, with the exception of local residential traffic only. Access for residents will be from the south through a single traffic lane.
- Patients accessing the Medical Dental Building can do so from the north entrance.
- Patients and visitors parking in the 39th St. public parking lot can access the lot by following marked detours south of the Hospital.
- Pedestrians will be able to utilize the closed portion of 50A Ave while adjacent sidewalks are closed.
- Delivery trucks will continue to be staged along 52 Ave., west of the hospital, where street parking will remain closed.
- Regular bus stops on 50A Ave. and 39 St. at the hospital will not be in use during this time. There will be a shuttle bus for those utilizing Red Deer Transit, accessed by a temporary bus stop near the corner of 39 St. and 51 Ave. The shuttle will operate on the same hours as regular transit buses, to and from Sorensen Station, departing every half hour.
Access to the Emergency Department, the hospital’s main entrance and the Central Alberta Cancer Centre will not be impacted.
Motorists are asked to please slow down when approaching or driving in construction areas and obey all posted signs and personnel directing traffic. Pedestrians are also asked to please keep to posted sidewalks for their safety around construction traffic.
Construction on the $44 million five-storey parkade structure is expected to be complete this fall. Since March, large, precast concrete t-beams have been delivered to site and hoisted into place to form the structure and parking levels of the parkade.
