- Calgary-based Enbridge Inc. is eliminating about 370 positions in Canada and 160 positions in the United States. The company did not disclose a detailed geographic breakdown of the layoffs.
- Precision Drilling Corp. recently rehired 1,000 people across its North America operations. According to the company, the majority of these oilfield workers had previously been employed by Precision.
- The Government of Alberta is adding 10 new judicial positions to the provincial court system. The province is also committing an additional $9.4M to Legal Aid Alberta.
- The Government of Alberta recently launched the Apprentice Training Award, which provides $1,000 to eligible apprentices. The province will provide a total of $1.5M for the 2016-17 academic year.
- The Government of Alberta estimates that about 2,700 students participated in the Summer Temporary Employment Program at more than 1,200 organizations this year. The program provides a $7-per-hour wage subsidy to employers who hire summer students.
- Safeway is closing the doors at a northeast Calgary location on December 10, 2016. About 112 employees will be affected by the closure.
- The City of Edmonton opened a new $12.4M fire hall in west Edmonton. Another station is scheduled to open in the northeast end in early 2017.
- The Government of Alberta recently launched the Bridge-to-Teacher Certification funding program. The program prepares industry professionals to teach in high-demand career and technology programs.
- Edson Healthcare Centre opened its doors on November 1, 2016. The $198.4M facility will offer a variety of health services, including a 24-bed acute care wing, 76 continuing care beds as well as kidney dialysis treatment.
- Capital Region Housing Corp plans to spend $137M in combined federal and provincial government funding on the construction and maintenance of affordable housing projects in Edmonton over a two-year period
- The Canadian Red Cross and the Rural Municipality of Wood Buffalo have launched the second phase of a financial assistance program for small businesses affected by the wildfires in May 2016. Businesses can apply for the program until December 16.
- The Government of Alberta launched a $10M energy-efficiency program for the agriculture sector to help reduce emissions
- The Town of Banff renewed its agreement with Banff Lake Louise Tourism to provide destination marketing services to the town. The agreement is worth more than $34M over the next six years.
- Big Hill Pool in Cochrane is looking for applicants for its lifeguard boot camps. The facility expects to triple the number of full- and part-time staff by the time its new facility opens in June 2017.

- The City of Edmonton approved a proposed 16-storey seniors complex in the city. The development is contingent on demolition of the Patricia Motel, which currently occupies the site, within two years.
- The Government of Alberta has granted a five-year forest management area extension to Tolko Industries under several conditions. The agreement could lead to the re-opening of the High Prairie OSB mill.
- The Municipal District of Willow Creek has approved development of a five-plex housing unit on the Ewelme Hutterite Colony near Fort MacLeod
- The Town of Fairview has approved plans for construction of a crematorium by Chapel of Memories
- The Government of Alberta is providing $60M in funding, over 18 months, to support bioenergy producers in the province as they transition from the expired Bioenergy Producers Credit Program to a new program
