Edmonton Fire encourages safe firework displays

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services is reminding citizens to follow firework safety practices while celebrating Canada Day 150.

It is important to follow all of the instructions for the safe use of fireworks, and pay special attention to the personal and public safety measures. Landing zone and safe spectator distances are identified on firework packaging and vary for each product. Always ensure there is a supply of water nearby, and keep fireworks and sparklers away from children. In addition, EFRS reminds the public that the fireworks permit owner is responsible for ensuring the cleanup of any remaining materials and misfired product at the conclusion of the display.

The City of Edmonton requires an application for a fireworks display, and advises it takes about three business days to process a fireworks permit.

For inquires regarding firework permits, call EFRS’ Fire Prevention Branch at 780-496-3628.
