EDMONTON — The “Global Compact on Migration: The effects to migrant caregivers in Canada” Forum organized by Migrante Alberta, University of Alberta Community Service Learning and Alberta Public Interest Research Group is on April 7, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the University of Alberta Faculty of Education, here.
Resource speakers Connie Sorio, KAIROS Migrant Justice and Asia Partnerships Coordinator, Joselyn Amba, Alberta Caregiver Association member, Emma Jackson, an MA Candidate from the University of Alberta, and Vilma Pagaduan, a former caregiver and long-time advocate for caregiver rights will talk about the effect of the recent announcement by the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that it would would no longer accept applications for permanent residency from the caregivers by November 2019.
“This news created a sense of panic among the participants of the program. Many that are in Canada now, that got in under the program will not be qualified,” announced Migrante Alberta.
