Alberta government updates: Coronavirus – new travel recommendations and mass gathering restrictions

New public health restrictions on mass gatherings

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we’ve asked event organizers to cancel large gatherings and international events.

Events should be cancelled if they have:
– 250 attendees or more
– 50 attendees or more that involve international participants, critical staff, seniors, or other high-risk populations

This includes large conferences, sporting and community events. It does not include places of worship, grocery stores, airports or shopping malls.

Schools, daycares and post-secondary institutions can remain open at this time, but steps should be taken to ensure no more than 250 people are in the same room at any given time.

New Travel Recommendations

Alberta has new travel recommendations to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Effective March 12:
• Albertans should avoid travel outside Canada
• Travellers currently outside Canada should self-isolate for 14 days after returning and monitor for cough, fever or difficulty breathing

If symptoms develop, stay home and call Health Link 811 for testing. Don’t go to the ER.
