Mid-Autumn Festival: Minister Aheer

Leela Sharon Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women, issued the following statement on the Mid-Autumn Festival:

“For Albertans of East Asian heritage, today marks the beginning of the Mid-Autumn, or Moon Festival.

“This festival is rooted in traditional folklore and celebrates the harvest. Today, people in Alberta and around the world celebrate by enjoying special treats, lighting lanterns and honouring the moon.

“Recognizing and learning more about different cultural traditions opens our eyes to the world around us. Not only can we enjoy the unique stories, art and cuisine of these celebrations, we can grow a deeper appreciation and understanding of different cultural perspectives.

“I encourage all Albertans to learn more about this special holiday, and I extend my best wishes for a happy Mid-Autumn Festival to those celebrating.”
