ALBERTA NDP’S AL-GUNEID VICTORIOUS IN CALGARY-GLENMORE RECOUNT

CALGARY – Nagwan Al-Guneid is the Alberta NDP MLA for Calgary-Glenmore, after she prevailed in a third count of the riding’s ballots.

Al-Guneid received 12,687 votes to the 12,639 cast for the UCP’s Whitney Issik. The riding was automatically recounted and the UCP applied for a judicial recount, which concluded Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m extremely grateful for the support of the people of Calgary-Glenmore,” said Al-Guneid. “I can’t wait to get to work on behalf of all Albertans in our community.

“It was a privilege to speak with thousands of Glenmore residents in the last year. They’re concerned about our healthcare system, the strain of cost of living on their families, and the future of our economy. As part of Rachel Notley’s team, I’ll be speaking up about what’s important for families in Calgary-Glenmore.”

Al-Guneid’s result makes for an Alberta NDP caucus of 37 MLAs. Diana Batten was declared the winner for the Alberta NDP in Calgary-Acadia, but the UCP also applied for a judicial recount in that riding. That result is expected Friday and a Batten victory will bring the caucus to 38 MLAs.
