Funding sparks prosperity for Alberta’s non-profits

Alberta’s government is providing more than $12 million to 248 non-profit initiatives to help build strong and vibrant communities across the province.

Non-profits provide critical services and enriching experiences for Albertans in all corners of the province. To help these efforts, Alberta’s government is supporting hundreds of non-profits through the Community Facility Enhancement Program and the Community Initiatives Program grants to help non-profits continue their valuable work.

Every year, these grant programs support hundreds of projects such as playgrounds, community halls, arts centres, festivals, events and programs that improve the quality of life for Albertans.

“Alberta’s government is proud to support non-profits through our community grant programs. Supporting these organizations helps fulfill our commitment to support programs and places that bring us together and build stronger communities. Through Budget 2024, Alberta’s government is continuing to support non-profits by investing $66 million into these grant programs.”

Alberta’s government is providing a total of $5.2 million in funding to 128 non-profit organizations through the Community Initiatives Program to help deliver initiatives such as music and film festivals, skill-based classes, cultural events and outreach programs. One example of a program receiving funding through the Community Initiatives Program is the 2024 Beakerhead Days at the TELUS Spark Science Centre in Calgary. Beakerhead is an extraordinary, mind-bending spectacle that helps engage Albertans with the wonders of science.

“The Government of Alberta’s generous support through the Community Initiative Program allows TELUS Spark Science Centre to bring initiatives like Beakerhead to life, inspiring Albertans by uniting the community, fueling creativity and sparking curiosity in science.”

Alberta’s government is also investing $7.3 million to help upgrade or build 120 public-use facilities across Alberta, through the Community Facility Enhancement Program. One of the recipients of the Community Facility Enhancement Program grants is the Women in Need Society of Calgary, with funds going towards helping them open their new Calgary location. The Women in Need Society of Calgary provides important supports to Albertans experiencing poverty and helps them gain access to essential everyday items. For every Community Facility Enhancement Program dollar invested in a community, the community raises up to $3.

“The Women in Need Society of Calgary extends our heartfelt thanks to the Government of Alberta for its support through a Community Facility Enhancement Program grant. This support has enabled the opening of our new Glenbrook location in Calgary, which will help us assist many more women and families for years to come.”
