Extreme weather response lifted
With temperatures expected to improve next week, the City of Edmonton will deactivate its extreme weather response on Monday, December 2. The final night of operation for the west route overnight shuttle service will be December 1, with service starting that evening and ending the morning of December 2.
The extreme weather response was activated on November 24 due to the extreme cold. The City has been running three dedicated overnight shuttle routes to transport people to shelters.
The two overnight shelter shuttle buses will continue to operate north and south routes every night between 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. until March 31, 2025 to help transport people to available shelter spaces. Bus route maps are available at edmonton.ca/extremeweather.
“We thank the Government of Alberta and community partners for providing safe and warm shelter spaces for vulnerable Edmontonians and people experiencing homelessness during this extreme cold,” said Hani Quan, Director, Affordable Housing and Homelessness.
The Navigation Centre, operated by the Government of Alberta and Hope Mission continues to offer access to 24/7 emergency shelter, income and ID support, health services, housing support and a pet-friendly service. The City of Edmonton, Homeward Trust and community partners will continue to monitor capacity within the shelter system.
The deactivation of the extreme weather response is being announced today to give individuals time to adjust their plans for accessing shelter.

Call 911 for someone in serious distress or cases of emergency.
Call 211, press 3 for 24/7 Crisis Diversion non-emergency support for shelter, intoxication and mental health.
