DANIELLE SMITH SPENT THE FALL SESSION IGNORING ALBERTANS AND PRIORITIZING HERSELF
EDMONTON – Amidst an affordability crisis, a housing crisis, a health care crisis, and an overburdened and under resourced education system, Danielle Smith and the UCP did nothing to help Albertans this session.
“Albertans want help with the increasing costs of living, they want access to health care, they want a well-funded education system for their children,” said Gray. “But Danielle Smith and the UCP ignored all of these priorities this session, because they prioritized
themselves over Albertans.”
The UCP spent the fall beginning their plan to increase auto insurance rates by 15 per cent, helping their own MLAs by giving them a higher accommodation allowance, making sex education less accessible, making schools less safe for trans kids, privatizing health
care, politicizing pension investments by firing the entire AIMCo board, and continuing to pick fights with the federal government instead of getting deals for Albertans.
“Instead of funding education, the UCP has made Alberta the lowest per-student funded province in the country,” said Gray. “Instead of making sure every Albertan has a family doctor and reducing hospital wait times, Danielle Smith’s reorganization is causing
chaos while she defends privatization schemes that will cost Albertans out of pocket for their surgeries.
“Instead of offering everyday Albertans relief from skyrocketing rents, the UCP decided to give themselves a 14 per cent retroactive increase to their MLA housing allowance and inflation-proof it into the future.
“Instead of assuring Albertans that they would keep their hands off their hard-earned pensions, the UCP doubled down on their political interference, firing the AIMCo board to control Albertans’ $170 billion in pensions and heritage savings.
“Now, more than ever, Albertans need a premier who is focused on making life better for them, not herself.”
