On April 27, Edmonton Transit Service spring service changes will take effect

Public Service Announcement

ETS spring service changes start April 27

On April 27, Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) spring service changes will take effect. Various bus routes will have service changes to reflect typical spring ridership patterns, including the suspension of post-secondary school service until the fall 2025 term.

As part of the upcoming service changes, an additional 50,000 annual service hours will be added to the network, making service more efficient and reliable. Some of the new service hours will be allocated to increasing service frequency on the regional airport Route 747. Twenty new buses will also be added to the fleet to accommodate this additional service.

Key Service Updates

New Bus Route for Keswick and Glenridding
Starting April 27, a new route will be introduced to the Keswick and Glenridding neighbourhoods to provide more consistent connection to and from Leger and Century Park transit centres.

Route 729 will operate during morning peak, midday, afternoon peak and evenings, Monday to Friday. The route will operate every 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during the midday and evenings.

On Demand Transit service will continue to be available on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Riders living in the Keswick on the River community will continue to access On Demand Transit throughout the week.

Baturyn Neighbourhood
As part of the Baturyn Neighbourhood and Alley Renewal Project, crews will be rebuilding the main corridor of 100 Street, 172 Avenue and 109 Street. The main corridor, which provides access to conventional ETS buses into the neighbourhood, will be closed for construction from April 27 to October.

As conventional ETS buses will not be able to safely enter and exit the Baturyn neighbourhood during construction, ETS will temporarily adjust service so residents can continue to access transit service.

Residents who live north of 169A/170 Avenue will have access to On Demand Transit service with Mary Butterworth, Eaux Claires Transit Centre and Castle Downs Transit Centre as the designated transit hubs.

Residents who live south of 169A/170 Avenue can access Routes 103/130X as they detour on Castle Downs Road NW. Five temporary stops will be added along Castle Downs Road (three eastbound, two westbound).

To help residents adapt to the temporary service change, ETS is providing an information sheet and a free drop-in virtual information session on April 15 at 7 p.m. A link to the virtual session will be available on April 15 at edmonton.ca/transitalerts.

132 Avenue Renewal Project
The 132 Avenue Renewal Project continues in 2025. This year, the majority of construction will take place in two separate construction areas: from 121 Street to 113A Street (West) and 82 Street to 66 Street (East). Both will begin on April 14 and will run until the fall.

For construction on the west side of 132 Avenue, Routes 51, 106 and 625 will detour along 134 Avenue/135 Avenue between 127 Street and 113A Street.

For construction on the east side of 132 Avenue, Routes 106 and 626 will detour along 134 Street and Delwood Road between 82 Street and 66 Street.

Coliseum Bridge work
From April 27 to mid-September, crews will be conducting rehabilitation work on the Coliseum LRT bridge to ensure continued safety and accessibility to the public.

As a result of this work, only one track will be available for Capital Line trains to use and this will impact service schedules and frequencies for both the Capital and Metro Lines.

Other service changes
In collaboration with regional partners, the frequency of service on Route 747 will increase during midday. This route will now operate every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. to and from Century Park Transit Centre and the Edmonton International Airport, seven days a week.
Stony Plain Road Shuttle (Route 999) – With the Stony Plain Road Bridge construction work now completed, the Stony Plain shuttle will be discontinued on April 27. Originally introduced as a way to provide extra transit during that period, this shuttle will be replaced with On Demand Transit service to help meet rider needs.
Groat House currently has duplicate service with On Demand Transit, which connects riders with City Centre Mall, Corona Station, Jasper Avenue and Churchill Square. Current road construction also does not allow the route to service Stony Plain Road and Jasper Place.
A new hub is being added to the Downtown Seniors Zone at 116 Street and 105 Avenue. This will help connect riders with both Routes 7 and 902.

On May 21 and June 9, buses will run regular weekday service, except for public school service due to Professional Development days.
On May 20 and June 26 and 27, there will be no Catholic or public school specials.

Riders are encouraged to plan their trips early by using the trip planner at edmonton.ca/transit or Google Maps and selecting a date after April 27.
