STATEMENT: Alberta’s New Democrats encourage MLAs to vote for a public inquiry into the CorruptCare Scandal

Media Statement

Sarah Hoffman, Alberta’s New Democrat Shadow Minister for Health, released the following statement encouraging MLAs to vote in favor of a fully independent, public inquiry into the CorruptCare Scandal:

“The UCP government is interfering in the Auditor General’s investigation of the CorruptCare scandal by issuing gag orders on public servants. They are also misleading Albertans about the work of the Auditor General. This is deeply troubling.

“Contrary to the government’s claims, the Auditor General has assured Albertans it is not standard procedure for an external law firm to intervene in interviews with government staff. This process was also not approved by the Auditor General, as the Health Minister falsely claimed.

“This is a cover-up. The only reason Albertans know about it is because of a leaked e-mail. Albertans deserve better.

“Today, MLAs have the opportunity to do the right thing and support my motion in the Legislature to commence a fully independent public inquiry. They should vote for it, rather than support even more cover ups in the CorruptCare scandal.”
