Edmonton Chinese Community celebrates Canada Day at
Heritage Chinatown


EDMONTON – The Edmonton Chinese Community will be celebrating Canada Day at the
Edmonton Chinatown Multicultural Centre with panel display of the stories of Chinese
Merchants in Western Canada. These panels are on loan from the University of Alberta – Bruce
Peel Collections.
The activities will start from 12 noon to 7:00 pm with orchestra groups, playing the traditional
Chinese and Western instruments, followed by lions and dragon dances, demonstrations of
table tennis technique and various cultural singing and dancing performances.
There is a tour of heritage Chinatown from 2:45 pm to 4 :00 pm where visits will be made to the
historical community organizations in Heritage Chinatown with over 100 years of history in
Edmonton.
The art of playing Chinese Chess will be on display for visitors interested in learning Chinese
Chess.
There are many performances by the young and the young at heart seniors. A day of fun and
joy for all people. Free individually wrapped Canada Day cake will be given out to all visitors.
A bottle of water and a hotdog will be available at $3.00 to attendees.
Admission to the event is free for all attendees to enjoy lion and dragon dances, martial arts,
and live music. There will be children’s games and crafts. Booths are set up to showcase and
for sale various cultural products etc.

activities, Table Tennis demonstrations, Chinese chess display and various craft activities and
cultural products for sale.
