| Catch some air at the Clareview Skateboard Skillsfest |
| Skateboarders aged eight and older are invited to test their skills at the second annual Clareview Skatepark Skillsfest. This free event gives each participant two 45 second runs with prizes for riders and giveaways for spectators. Space is limited to 40 riders, but walk-ups are welcome if there is room. Registrations must be submitted by August 8. Participants should bring their own helmets and skateboards as there will be a limited amount of equipment to borrow during the event.Date: Saturday, August 16 Time: 1 – 5 p.m.Location: Clareview Skatepark, Clareview Community Recreation Centre, 3804 139 AvenueBelmont Sobey’s staff will emcee the event and guest judges include representatives from Tegler Youth Centre, Boardom Skateshop and the local skateboard community. Boardom Skateshop will provide free demonstrations and lessons. Light refreshments and snacks will be available. The Edmonton Public Library and the City’s Neighbourhood Empowerment Team will be on-site to provide library resources and Bike Indexing information.Organized through a collaborative effort of local residents, businesses, Clareview area Community Leagues, and various City of Edmonton departments, this Skillsfest aims to foster collective pride and ownership in the skatepark, opportunities to network, build community and excitement for future events. Through its 19 recreation centres, the City of Edmonton proudly advances its goals to create positive opportunities, support health and wellbeing, be inclusive and create strong communities. |
