Building new economic bridges with Mexico

Premier Danielle Smith will promote Alberta as a secure, reliable partner in energy, agriculture and technology while in Mexico City Aug. 10-13.

The Premier will meet with government officials, private sector and industry leaders to encourage new investment and trade with Alberta and to strengthen one of Alberta’s most important trade relationships.

This mission will focus on identifying synergies in Alberta and Mexico’s energy and agriculture sectors so the province can leverage new market opportunities for Alberta companies, attract new investment to our province and lay the groundwork for new deals with trade partners across Mexico.

Premier Danielle Smith will also champion Alberta as a strategic trade and investment partner with strengths in agrifood, forestry, technology, tourism and manufacturing that will allow both Alberta and Mexico to capitalize on mutually beneficial growth across core industries for generations to come.

“Alberta’s government has made a commitment to Albertans that we will pursue new opportunities, diversify our markets and secure new trade and investment ties around the globe, and my mission to Mexico is this commitment in action. Mexico is a valued trading partner, ally and long-time friend to our province that understands just as well as we do that by working together, we have an opportunity to generate jobs, stability and prosperity for our people. While in Mexico, I intend to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones to do just that.”Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta

This is the first official visit to Mexico by a Premier of Alberta since 2019. Mexico is the province’s fourth-largest bilateral trading partner and is one of Alberta’s fastest-growing export markets.

Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.
