Extreme heat response to be lifted Monday, September 1

With improved weather conditions, the City of Edmonton will deactivate its extreme heat response on Monday, September 1 at 9 a.m.

The extreme heat response was activated on Monday, August 25 at 9 a.m. Extreme heat activations are issued when the forecast is anticipated to have daytime temperatures of 29 degrees Celsius or higher and nighttime lows of 14 degrees Celsius or higher for at least 3 days in a row.

Water stations will remain open until September 30, 2025. Find a water station here.

If you are concerned about someone outside:
Call 211 and press 3 for the 24/7 Crisis Diversion team. They can assist with individuals who may be in distress and can provide transportation to social service agencies.
Call 911 in cases of emergency.

Sector Emergency Response

The City’s extreme weather response supplements existing measures implemented by the Sector Emergency Response group, a collaboration of more than 25 agencies working together to ensure Edmonton’s most vulnerable people are safe during adverse weather conditions.

The extreme weather response implements City Policy C620 to ensure the
health and safety of all Edmontonians, particularly those who are vulnerable to extreme weather conditions.
