A NATION ON THE EDGE OF PEOPLE POWER

A NATION ON THE EDGE OF PEOPLE POWER
Opinion | Rob Rances

There are moments in history when everything lines up in a way no strategist, no political bloc, no spin doctor could ever script.

Moments when it feels as if the hand of God is quietly rearranging the pieces.

And right now, our nation is entering one of those moments.

For weeks, the November 16–18 rally was planned as a peaceful, contained gathering—INC, civic groups, and ordinary Filipinos standing together for transparency and accountability.

No revolution.
No politics.
Just truth.

But Zaldy Co’s confession changed everything.

I. WHAT WAS MEANT TO BE A RALLY MAY TURN INTO A MOVEMENT

Before yesterday, an estimated one million people were reportedly ready to stand.

Today?
The numbers may double—not out of party loyalty, but out of national disgust.

And it may no longer remain a “standing rally.”

It could become a march—a march toward the seat of power, the way people move when they’re pushed past their breaking point.

DILG Secretary Remulla is not ready to contain this. No one is.

Because once the people move together, no force—not water cannons, not dispersal lines, not PR statements—can contain their moral momentum.

II. WHY THIS IS DIFFERENT: THE SCANDAL FINALLY HAS A FACE

For the first time, the flood-control scandal is not abstract.

It has names.
It has documents.
It has confessions.
It has fingerprints—all the way to Malacañang.

PCIJ’s SAROs.
The President’s Eight-Point Agenda directly cited as justification.
And now, Zaldy Co’s testimony.

And suddenly, the scandal is no longer about rogue contractors or corrupt agencies.

It is about the highest offices in the Republic.

People don’t march because of rumors.
People march when they finally see what those in power tried so hard to hide.

III. WHEN THE PEOPLE STAND, SOME IN THE MILITARY STAND TOO

No soldier wants to defend corruption.
No officer wants to side with architects of plunder.
No uniformed Filipino wants to be used as a shield for those who betrayed the public trust.

And with the truth now erupting in front of the whole nation…

Many in the Armed Forces may decide they can no longer look away.

Not this time.
Not with documents.
Not with confessions.
Not with the people marching for a constitutional path to accountability.

Some may side with the people—not out of politics, but out of oath.

Remember: The AFP is the protector of the people and the State. Not the protector of palace scandals.

IV. THIS TIME, PEOPLE POWER IS INEVITABLE

Not because someone wants it.
Not because a color is pushing it.
Not because of partisan machinery.

People Power becomes inevitable when:
• The truth explodes.
• The economy collapses.
• Corruption becomes too blatant to deny.
• Leaders lose all moral authority.
• Millions stand together demanding a constitutional resolution.

This is not 1986.
This is 2025.
And the people are no longer naïve.
They know who betrayed them.
They know who lied to them.
They know who stole from them.

And they know that the only lawful exit is constitutional succession.

V. HISTORY IS SPEEDING UP, AND NO ONE CAN STOP IT NOW

The peaceful rally was meant to be a call.
But Zaldy Co turned it into an alarm.

In one confession, he pulled the curtain off:
•BBM
• Malacañang insiders
• Martin Romualdez
• DPWH machinery
• The multi-year flood-control racket

And when the public finally sees the system for what it is…

They will move.

Peacefully.
Constitutionally.
Collectively.

And once millions walk, history walks with them.

👊 POWER PUNCH

We are witnessing the beginning of something historic.

A moment when…

Truth aligns with outrage,
Outrage aligns with courage,
Courage aligns with unity,
And unity becomes unstoppable.

If this continues, no one can stop what’s coming.

Not because the people seek chaos—
but because they finally seek justice.

People Power is no longer a possibility.

It is the nation’s trajectory.
