UCP blocks review of DynaLife contract, AHS procurement practices

EDMONTON– Today, UCP members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) voted against meetings to question health ministries about the Auditor General’s findings on health care mismanagement, including the DynaLife contract and AHS procurement practices.
The Public Accounts Committee’s job is to scrutinize government spending and ensure departments act on the Auditor General’s recommendations. These meetings are essential for transparency, accountability, and for protecting public dollars from waste and abuse.
“The UCP members of PAC agreed to hold these meetings well before the report on DynaLife was released,” said Marlin Schmidt, member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. “But now, instead of addressing the many concerns raised by the Auditor General, the UCP has shut down any future opportunities for accountability. This is a government hiding from their responsibilities.”
By cancelling these meetings, the UCP is preventing Albertans from getting answers about failures in our health system. This comes after the UCP recently announced the Auditor General would essentially be fired in the spring, amidst his investigation into CorruptCare.
“Albertans deserve accountability. Instead, the UCP is burying the truth about health care corruption and blocking the very process designed to keep government honest,” said Schmidt. “Alberta’s New Democrats will continue to fight for transparency and demand that the government reinstate these meetings and come clean on health care mismanagement.”
