Statement
Sarah Hoffman, Alberta’s New Democrat Shadow Minister for Hospital and Surgical Health Facilities issued the following statement:
“Albertans are seeing crisis after crisis in our hospitals and emergency rooms. Hospitals are overcrowded, wait times are out of control, and many patients are there because cold and flu viruses are circulating widely across the province. The Premier and health ministers have been silent for weeks while doctors and patients are sounding the alarm. Albertans deserve answers and accountability.
“Alberta’s New Democrats call on this UCP government to provide an update immediately on steps they will take to reduce wait times and overcrowding in our hospitals. Whether it’s Minister LaGrange, Minister Jones, Minister Nixon, Minister Wilson, the Chief Medical Officer of Health or the Premier herself, someone needs to explain what the plan is.
“Albertans deserve so much better than what we’ve seen in the past month and we can’t afford more delays, excuses, or lack of action—lives are literally at risk.”
