Premier Danielle Smith and Associate Minister of Multiculturalism Muhammad Yaseen issued the following statements in commemoration of Lent:
“Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. In the weeks ahead, more than two million Christians in Alberta will join others around the world in a period of prayer, reflection and preparation for Easter Sunday.
“Faith plays an important role in the lives of many Albertans, strengthening families, supporting those in need and helping to build the strong communities we are proud to call home.
“To all those observing Lent, I wish you strength and renewal during this meaningful season.”
Premier Danielle Smith
“As Lent begins, Christians take this time to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His teachings.
“Many choose to observe Lent by fasting or setting aside certain foods, activities or habits. These traditions echo Jesus Christ’s 40 days in the desert and help believers focus on their faith and deepen their relationship with God.
“I extend my sincere best wishes to all those observing Lent this year. May this season bring renewal, purpose and a strengthened sense of spiritual connection.”
Muhammad Yaseen, Associate Minister of Multiculturalism
