Public Service Announcement
Extreme weather response ends February 24
With temperatures expected to improve this week, the City of Edmonton will deactivate its extreme weather response on Tuesday, February 24, at noon. The final night of operation for the expanded overnight shuttle service (west route) will be February 23, with service starting that evening and ending the morning of February 24.
The extreme weather response was activated on Monday, February 16, in response to the extreme cold.
As weather conditions change, the extreme weather response may resume later in the week if temperatures drop.
The deactivation of the extreme weather response is being announced to give individuals time to adjust their plans for accessing shelter.
Once the extreme weather response is deactivated, the following services will remain accessible:
Winter shelter shuttle
Two shelter shuttles will continue to operate nightly along the north and south routes from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. until March 31, providing transportation to available shelter spaces.
A 24/7 Hope Mission shuttle operating along a west route until March 31, providing transportation to shelters, support services and healthcare providers.
Overnight winter shelter shuttle service operating along north and south routes from 12:45 to 3:30 a.m. These shuttles focus on transporting people from transit stations to shelters based on need and do not follow set routes.
Route maps are available at edmonton.ca/ExtremeWeather.
City facilities
Public City facilities and libraries will remain open during regular operating hours to anyone needing respite from the extreme cold.
