For Alberta, For Canada: New pro-Canada campaign launches ahead of separatist referendum
Campaign also announces first province-wide day of action April 25
CALGARY—A new campaign launched today will help proud Albertans stand up for Canada and take action ahead of an increasingly likely fall referendum.
For Alberta, For Canada is a movement for anyone who wants to fight back against separatism and stand up for Canada.
Starting today, Albertans can sign up at www.ForAlbertaForCanada.ca to join this campaign, get involved, and learn about ways to take action.
“Our country is not perfect, but it’s the best place in the world, and Albertans are ready to fight for Canada,” said Naheed Nenshi, Leader of Alberta’s New Democrats. “Every day, Albertans ask me one simple question about separatism: ‘what can I do?’ This new campaign is an answer to that—giving everyday people the tools and the power they need to stand up for our country.
“They know that if Alberta separates, we’ll lose so much. Even the threat of a referendum is already damaging our economy and creating chaos and uncertainty. Today we are giving Albertans the tools to take action and be ready for this fall.”
Albertans can take part in the For Alberta, For Canada campaign by:
- Visiting ForAlbertaForCanada.ca and signing up
- Joining For Alberta, For Canada’s first province-wide Day of Action on April 25 to door knock and reach out to other Albertans
- Telling 3 friends, family members, or neighbours to do the same
The For Alberta, For Canada campaign is designed to mobilize Albertans in every corner of the province.
This comes as the UCP government changed the rules to make it easier to trigger a separatist referendum which seems increasingly likely for this October. At the same time, the government continues to delay action on the Forever Canadian petition, signed by nearly half a million Albertans.
“We know we can’t sleepwalk into a referendum,” added Nenshi. “Albertans have to organize, have conversations with their neighbours, and ensure that we’re ready to mobilize the pro-Canada vote this fall.”
While the campaign is powered by Alberta’s New Democrats, all proud Canadians in Alberta are invited to take part. For Alberta, For Canada is open to everyone who believes Alberta and Canada are better together and anyone who wants to take a stand against separatism.
