EDMONTON — It’s not going to be just all work for the Filipino-Edmontonians in the Sherwood Park neighbourhood as they take a break each Saturday starting March 8 to have fun and renew friendship.

“Alam mo naman, basketball talaga ang gustong outlet ng mga kaibigan natin sa Sherwood Park area,” Zaldy Dimaano, president of the Sherwood Park Basketball Association (SPBA) told the Pinoy Edmonton News.

A total of seven teams are seeing action this year and players will be parading their new uniforms made through the generosity of Crosstown Auto Centre when they gather at the Salisbury Composite High School at 1:30 p.m.

Entered this season are Palabok House, MFP LakLakers, Phil-Can, The Eagles, Fort Generals, The Dolphins and LLCM Overcomers.

He said this is the fourth year of the league and for this year it is officially titled “SPBA-Crosstown Auto Centre Basketball League”. And because of the support of the auto dealer, plans are in place to hold two leagues instead of the regular one per year.

Dimaaano, who started as a regular player four years ago and unanimously voted by the members to lead the group this year, said they are very grateful for the support of Crosstown Auto, the players and their families and hope that they will be able to continue promoting health through basketball games on a weekend basis for the Filipino community in Sherwood Park.
