Migrante invites Albertans to attend `Migration and the Global Trade of People’ conference

Migrante Alberta is inviting Albertans to attend the “Migration and the Global Trade of People” Conference on March 20 to 21.

Please attend the “MIGRATION AND THE GLOBAL TRADE OF PEOPLE” conference.
One of the speakers at the conference is Maria Victoria “Vicky” Venencio. Vicky is a 29 year-old woman who came to Canada under the Temporary Foreign Workers Program. On June 2012, Vicky was cycling to work in Edmonton when she was struck by a vehicle leaving her quadriplegic. Vicky is the human face of a temporary foreign worker and a casualty of the cruel guest worker program
Other speakers include:
  • Dr. Robyn Rodriguez on global migratory trends their structural roots and labour export policies;
  • Lawyer and migrant advocate Yessy Byl speaking on the Guest Worker Program and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and advocating a “just immigration system”;
  • Jason Foster of Athabasca University on the themes of the role of unions, labour & community
