About River Valley Clean Up
Since 1987, thousands of city residents have scoured Edmonton’s parks system as well as the shoreline of the North Saskatchewan River to pick up litter.
At the 2013 kickoff event, 267 volunteers picked up more than 200 bags of litter around Louise McKinney Riverfront Park. Another 350 people from neighbourhood communities around Mill Creek Ravine gathered to collect garbage along that waterway. In the first week alone, residents picked up 155 cubic metres of litter – enough to fill up seven of our largest garbage trucks.
Throughout the summer and into the fall, volunteers continued to pick up litter along our river valley and throughout the connecting ravines. We are grateful for their passion and dedication in keeping our river valley clean.
