Root down for Tree Fest
All residents are invited to attend Root for Trees Fest, a free family event that highlights the City of Edmonton’s Root for Trees initiative with fun activities and games for all ages.
|Date:||Saturday, June 13, 2015|
|Time:||10 a.m. – 2 p.m.|
|Location:||Beaumaris Park, 10210 155 Avenue|
The event, sponsored by Syncrude, begins with the Tree-athlon, a one-of-a-kind activity for children 11 and under. Treeathletes will race 0.5 km or 1 km to plant and water a tree, and will be awarded with a medal for their efforts. Doug Hoyer, and Jesse and Dandelions will provide musical entertainment, while Attila the HUNgry food truck will be available for grumbling tummies. Other activities include nature tree games, display tables, crafts and the Tree-via Sticker Challenge, a game in which children acquire passport stamps as they learn about planting and the importance of trees.
Root for Trees is an initiative to increase the number of trees within the city. The annual target is to plant an additional 16,000 trees on public and private land. As part of Tree Fest, participants can also plant their own trees to help exceed the goal of 1,000 trees planted throughout the afternoon.
