Virson Orquez of Crosstown Auto-RAM Boys emerged as the tournament’s most valuable player while Cyril Ashworth and Cris Tantengco shared the final’s MVP honors for Crosstown Auto-Crooks in the recent Red Deer All-Filipino basketball league in Blackfalds.
Ashworth, Tantengco, Paolo Librea, Jason Caag and Josh Santua led the Crooks, back-to-back champions in the Philippine Sports Association(PSA) tournaments, in edging the RAM Boys by just two points in the final game, 97-95. The RAM Boys led by Derrick Rodriguez, Lem and Liam Baui, and Virson and Virlou Orquez tried to stage a big comeback but time was no longer on their side.
The Leduc Knights placed third in the invitationals organized by Glenn Kubaron.
Kubaron thanked all players for honoring the invitation held over the weekend at the Abbey Centre and Alberta’s No.1 auto dealer, Crosstown Auto Centre through its president Joe Medina, for its continued support to Filipino basketball events.
He announced that they will make it a tradition every long weekend in September to have the tournament to promote camaraderie in the Filipino community.(p.e.n.)
