PAL Seniors Interclub: Host Mimosa nearly won Interclub on 1st try
CLARK, Angeles – Mimosa Golf and Country Club nearly pulled off the unthinkable – win the Philippine Airlines Seniors Interclub golf team championships on its first try, but faltered in the last two rounds to settle for the Founders division crown Sunday at its home course.
Mimosa had the best score halfway through the annual event, but came up short against experienced rivals.
In the end, Mimosa finished eight points behind eventual champion Canlubang, posting a four-day total of 567, 13 points ahead of Cebu Country Club.
Lee Dong Ko led Mimosa’s final day charge with 50 points while Park Chanwoo and Rico Santos added 48 and 47, respectively.
Mimosa’s final round score of 145 was enough to relegate Cebu Country Club in second place.
CCC drew 50 points from Ramontito Garcia, 46 from Lorenzo Allan and 44 from Editho Tirol to close out with 140 and 554 overall.
Eight points behind in third spot was the Orchard.
The battle for the Aviator crown ended via countback with Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club edging Eagle Ridge.
Both clubs finished tied with 524 points, but NOGCC won it after its fourth scorer Epifanio Torre had a better score than Jose Nepomuceno, his Eagle Ridge counterpart.
Scoring for NOGCC were Francis Gaston 44, Tonchy de Leon 43 and Chito Garcia 41.
Eagle Ridge caught up with NOGCC by posting 131 points through Cesar Castro 49 and the 41s of Hwang Seong Soo and Alfredo Pareja.
Manila Southwoods finished third with 500 points.
In the Sportswriters division, Club 1872 Los Angeles nipped Sarangani Golf Club by three points.
Both teams scored 120 points in the final round.
Forest Hills settled for third with 458 points.
In another cliffhanger, Bacolod Golf and Country Club won the Friendship class by a single point over UP Tee Jots.
