MANILA (Philippines News Agency) — Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa admitted to participating in a “special operation” related to terrorism hence his lack of public appearance shortly after the Resorts World Manila (RWM) incident last June 2.
“It’s terrorism related (referring to the special operation) and I do not need to give details,” said Dela Rosa to reporters at the sidelines on the launching Tuesday of FitFil 1 Million Lbs National Weight Loss Challenge at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The RWM incident has claimed the lives of 38 persons, including gunman Jessie Carlos, and wounding of 74 others.
The PNP chief stressed his non-public appearance lately has nothing to do with the findings that the suspect’s motive in the RWM was robbery and not terrorism as earlier believed thus giving leeway for the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to handle the case.
He stressed that this “special operation” needs to be done quickly and secretly hence his decision to lie low for a few days. (PNA)
