MANILA (Philippines News Agency) — Four German companies are eyeing the Philippines for their shared service centers that would cater to the Asia-Pacific markets.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez, in a text message Monday, July 17, said pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim will open a shared service facility in Manila by October this year, an addition to its two shared service centers in Ingelheim, Germany that serve the European Union market and in Buenos Aires for its South America market.

“The choice for Manila as the Asia Pacific location was mainly because of the country’s good university system and access to talented workforce,” Lopez said as he noted that the Boehringer Ingelheim’s operation here will initially serve Australia and New Zealand markets.

“The future plan is to have the Philippines as a global center for Boehringer Ingelheim shared services,” he added.

Boehringer Ingelheim is the third largest multinational company in the Philippines.

During the official trip of Lopez to Germany early this month, he met with the Merck Group.

Merck started outsourcing procurement, accounting, human resource, and information technology services from the Philippines in July 2016, initially employing 125 personnel. Its primary markets for the Philippine operation are North America and Asia Pacific.

“The company plans to expand its operations in the next three to four years by expanding services and scope to employ 800 people by 2020,” the trade chief said.

Fresenius Medical Care, which opened its shared services business in Alabang in 2015, targets to increase its number of employees to 130 over a three-year period from its current 77 personnel.

Lopez said aside from expanding the shared service operation, the operator of dialysis clinics will expand its clinics in the country from 25 at end-2017 to 37 clinics by 2020.

Moreover, the DTI chief said luxury carmaker BMW has tapped Bosch Communications Center in the country to serve inquiries of its customers in ASEAN. (PNA)
