Help give a lift with DONATE A RIDE
The annual DONATE A RIDE campaign was launched today in support of the thousands of Edmontonians who rely on the initiative to access public transportation to employment, educational, medical or social services on a short-term basis.
DONATE A RIDE helps eliminate travel barriers by providing free Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) tickets. Donations can be made by requesting DONATE A RIDE envelopes from ETS operators to place into fare boxes from December 20, 2017 to January 31, 2018. Donations can also be made securely online throughout the year.
“When we are able to support our community with a transit ticket from the DONATE A RIDE program, it’s not just a bus ride,” said Cheryl Whiskeyjack, Executive Director for Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society. “It’s a means to help address some real life issues. There’s a story behind every transit ticket, and it would end very differently if our clients didn’t have the means to get to essential services and opportunities.”
Collected donations will be used to purchase transit tickets for over 70 community agencies that provide basic needs services, individual and family support services, health and disability services, newcomer services, youth services, shelter programs, and support for seniors.
Since the program’s inception in 1996, $2.8 million worth of transit tickets have been distributed to clients of social service agencies.
