Filipino community volunteer Benjamin “Benjie” Lindo turned another leaf with a big night celebration, Saturday, at the Leefield Community Hall in Edmonton.
Lindo, who served as the “point person” of the Calgary-based Philippine Consul-General’s Office and the Filipino communities in Alberta and Saskatchewan provinces, turned 51 and the celebration was graced by fellow Filipino community volunteers led by Kris Salumbides of Quality Sleep Care, who has served as his partner in the “Masang Pilipino” community information broadcast on Facebook, Bayani Alcantara and Celso Andrade of the Philippine Business Society of Alberta.
“We wish him all the best as he continues to keep on serving the Pinoy community in our province,” said Chris Ayson of WeFix Autoglass.
Lindo came into the spotlight when he led the organizing of the Duterte Volunteers Alberta Canada in 2016, rallying Filipino voters as they call for “change” in the Philippines.
That year, the first president from Mindanao Island, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, was elected.
After the elections, Lindo continued his volunteer work with the Consul’s office and making the communication lines more open to the Filipinos living in the province.
Future schedules the Consular Outreach services are posted on FB by Lindo and with the help of his fellow volunteers, keep the community updated on various Filipino activities.
“Patuloy tayong tutulong sa ating mga Kababayan, ‘yan ang aking misyon. Maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga volunteers natin at sa mga Kababayan nating handang tumulong sa ating mga proyekto para sa mga Pilipino,” said Lindo.(p.e.n.)
